About PrEP
Pre-exposure prophylaxis, commonly known as PrEP, is a safe and effective way to help prevent HIV infection. The Basic Benefits PrEP Box allows you to conveniently monitor your sexual and personal health from home while taking PrEP medication.
Please note: Basic Benefits physician affiliates do not currently prescribe or renew PrEP medications. You must share your lab results with your healthcare provider, who will determine whether you can start PrEP or renew an existing prescription. If you have questions about PrEP, please consult your doctor.
What Is PrEP?
PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is a once-daily prescription pill for people who do not have HIV and want to reduce their risk of acquiring HIV. When taken as prescribed, PrEP is highly effective and is recommended for individuals at increased risk of HIV exposure.
Which PrEP Panel Is Right for Me?
If you are currently taking PrEP, the Basic Benefits PrEP Box provides the laboratory tests typically required every three months to continue treatment. This at-home test kit allows you to collect samples conveniently without visiting a clinic or doctor’s office.
Renewing a PrEP prescription usually requires regular testing, and all required tests are included in the PrEP Box.
What Does the PrEP Box Include?
There are two types of PrEP Boxes:
PrEP Baseline Box – Used before starting PrEP. It includes all required baseline tests:
- HIV testing: One OraQuick® rapid at-home HIV test
- Blood collection (finger stick) for:
- Hepatitis B
- Hepatitis C
- Syphilis
- Urine or swab collection for:
- Chlamydia (genital and rectal)
- Gonorrhea (genital, rectal, and oral)
- Creatinine
- Pregnancy test (women only)
PrEP Follow-Up Box – Designed for routine three-month follow-up testing. It includes all tests from the Baseline Box except Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C.
